  • “I speak to you as a parent of a current Year 12 student and as a teacher with over 20 years’ experience. When we first heard about MIC, it was when my nephew enrolled. After attending one of Brisbane’s elite private high schools, we’d ask him “How’s the School of Rock going?” With his half-shaved head and ever growing piercings, it never seemed to upset him that we joked. He knew he was onto a good thing and that he’d have the last laugh. Months passed and we saw a happy teenager evolve who later graduated with an excellent OP and got into university. So, the jokes stopped and when my own child who became disengaged and unhappy at her private school, we HAD to ask: “What was this School of Rock?” Did I mourn her loss of perfectly pressed private school girl uniform? Yes. Did I question these odd hours that MIC teaches? Yes. Did I question the effectiveness of such a school system? Yes. Do I regret sending my child to MIC? Absolutely not. I have an engaged, proud child who truly belongs. Not in a “system” but I could call a family. There’s no joking when it comes to this school and its curriculum and even though it doesn’t have the fancy uniforms and big science labs, THIS SCHOOL WORKS. It’s actually a very clever model and in-tuned way of connecting with your teenager, never losing sight of your child’s education and potential. The teachers will know each child is unique and they will encourage them to be their very best. They will not simply give a task to them and wish them the best, but work beside them and assist them to reach their full potential. Brett, Ros and all MIC staff are very dedicated to MIC. They live and breathe it. But let me tell you something, Brett is too quiet and humble about the successes of the school. He will always tell you in a soft but always passionate manner what they are doing at the school and it’s future vision. However, I’d like to shout it out and tell you as parents of potential MIC students that THIS school DOES rock! So call it what you want, but my younger child who is only 10 years old wants to be enrolled when he enters Year 11. And you know what? I will have no hesitation.”
