At MIC we aim to showcase the talent of our students by providing as many real world opportunities as possible.

Our key events are The Triffid Showcase, Song of the Year performance, Performance Assessment Showcases and monthly Open Mic performances. These performances occur before a live audience, some in front of peers, others for parents and in the case of The Triffid Showcase, a paying audience.

The Triffid Showcase

The Triffid Showcase is an annual theme based event where the students choose a song to perform from a list curated by MIC staff. Students then form bands and rehearse their cover version of the song. Auditions take place and the final fifteen songs and performers are selected. Students then begin the process of practicing the song under the guidance of our music teachers. The songs are then performed at one of Brisbane' premier music venues, The Triffid for a capacity crowd.

Song of the Year

The Song Of The Year is a competitive program where students submit their best song to be judged by a panel of industry professionals. Once voting is finalised the top eight songs are performed live at The Triffid. At the end of the performances the winner of Song Of The Year is announced. This is followed by a 30 minute performance by one of our graduates.

Performance Assessment Showcase

For the first performance assessment in Music and Music in Practice students will perform for a live audience consisting of parents, friends, staff and peers. This is often the first performance for an audience for many of our students.

Open MIC

Open mics are a way for students to perform in a low stakes environment where they are supported by staff and students.

Musicals

Although not an annual event, MIC has held both filmed and live musical productions throughout the years. Musicals are a great way to showcase the talents of both our Drama and Music students.
